And in doing so, in watching the ending, in watching Max break down, I broke down. Though I hesitated, knowing the price would hurt both Max and myself, I chose to save Arcadia Bay. The knowing that all those people I grew to care about, grew to learn about, grew to see as people with stories and passions and hopes and dreams would die. The knowing that Max would still be very invested in keeping Chloe safe and alive, as nihilistninja puts it, was not a factor. The knowing that Chloe was just using me was not a factor. only to be reminded of what his very troubled life had come to. I remember listening to the voicemail left by the one character I disliked. only to finally succeed and realize who was inside everytime. I remember watching, more times than I cared to count, the Two Whales Diner explode for just a second before rewinding time and making another aimless attempt to save it. I remember seeing a teenage female weeping over the body of who I presumed to be her father as he laid between the road pavement and a telephone pole. I saved Arcadia Bay because the amount of emotional investment I had for the people I met and grew to care about far outweighed the amount I had for Chloe. ![]() While I don't deny that the Bay option is the most rational choice from a player's perspective it doesn't seem to be the most honest to Max as a character as I understood her. Using the knowledge Max had on hand it wouldn't be surprising if she went back watched Chloe die and tore the butterfly photo only to find herself back on the cliff watching the storm bear down on Arcadia anyway. Secondly, the inherent uncertaincy of the storm's origin from Max's point of view. ![]() Continued abuse of our services will cause your IP address to be blocked indefinitely.Firstly, I couldn't see Max at that point in the story, after everything she had invested in keeping Chloe safe and alive, choosing to sacrifice her.
